It’s always a good day when someone takes a beloved anime show and messes around with it using stock footage, isn’t it?
Pokémon has been around forever. Premiering in Japan in April 1997 and then the rest of the world later on, the anime series has been a constant staple in kids homes (and adults) for the longest time.
Just hearing the Pokémon start-up music is enough to get hard-core fans into a bit of a frenzy but what if that well-known and iconic intro is mixed in with Stock Footage to portray a very different Pokemon?
Pokemon! Gotta catch em’ all!
Comedian Matthew Highton has hilariously recreated the Pokemon theme tune by adding in strange stock footage that’s so out of place, it just makes it even funnier.
Highton redid the opening sequence to Pokemon by adding in, side by side to the original, stock footage of people holding animals, tennis balls, a flying cat, someone on a swan boat and a whole host of weird images that just seems to work.
But there’s more
Not to just leave it at Pokemon, Highton carried on his strange but talented skill for his stock footage makeovers. In the same thread, you’ll also see Buffy, The Simpsons, Friends, Fresh Prince of Belair and many other iconic TV shows get the “Highton treatment”.
It’s brilliant.
With over 300k views at the time of writing, the video is sure to delight Pokemon fans everywhere but you can bet that you’ll never watch it the same way again without seeing those weird stock images. You can thank Matthew Highton for that one.
