While Nintendo has stated that the addition of new content has ended for Splatoon 2, that apparently doesn’t preclude the addition of old content. The official Splatoon 2 Tumblr blog has revealed that ten weapons from the original Wii U classic will make their way to the Nintendo Switch sequel.
The ten weapons, said to be “Sheldon’s Picks” (you know, Sheldon, the overly-talkative weapons expert who kind of looks like a Minion) are as follows:
- Heavy Splatling Remix
- Sploosh-o-matic 7
- Fresh Squiffer
- Cherry H-3 Nozzlenose
- N-ZAP ‘83
- Soda Slosher
- Aerospray PG
- Bamboozler 14 Mk III
- Permanent Inkbrush
- Grim Range Blaster
If you don’t see your favorite weapon from the original Splatoon game in that list, chances are that it was already added to the second game as part of the Kensa Collection. It serves as a nice throwback—but what I’m really looking for is the return of older music tracks and special weapons in the first game. But hey, I’m a spoiled Splatoon fan.
Fans presume that these weapons will come in a 4.4.0 update, with one Twitter user capturing that version number for a split-second on the game’s title screen. 4.3.0 included the aforementioned Kensa Collection weapons, while the 4.2.0 update contained the final Salmon Run stage and literally a giant rubber stamp weapon.
In other news, Japan is getting a free demo of Splatoon 2 for a week, specifically from March 26 to April 1. There is no word on whether or not that trial will be available to Switch owners in the West. Demo players can also play Salmon Run in the demo and can transfer their progress should they choose to purchase the full game. With a paid service required to play Splatoon 2 online, having such a trial may set a precedent for similar trials from Nintendo in the future.
Back in North America, Nintendo announced their plans for a Splatoon 2 tournament. With qualifying matches in February and March, the Splatoon 2 North America Inkling Open 2019 will culminate in a final event at PAX East.
