From its dark sense of humor to its eclectic blend of games, Devolver Digital has a distinct brand of indie games that have made their way to consoles and PC over the years. That of course extends to some of the publisher’s upcoming titles like Carrion, which is a retro-themed horror game with a unique twist that will arrive in just a few weeks on consoles and PC.
During the Devolver Direct 2020, Phobia Game Studios’ Carrion got its time in the spotlight, with the publisher announcing that the game will debut for Xbox One, Switch, and PC on July 23, 2020. However, this was no usual release date announcement, as Xbox’s Phil Spencer made a guest appearance on the broadcast alongside a mutant blob from the game to announce when Carrion is coming out. You can check out the clip below and…see for yourself.
For those unfamiliar with the game, the core idea of Carrion is that it is a horror game, but in reverse of what you typically expect from most other horror games. Instead of the one being pursued by a deadly creature, Carrion instead has you playing as a horrific flesh blob that can consume and take over enemies, as you try to escape from the research facility in which you were spawned. Think of it like Inside, if you were the grotesque blob for an entire game.
If you’re curious to try out the game for yourself before its release in a few weeks, you can check out a free demo of Carrion that is available right now on Steam.
Carrion will release for Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on July 23, 2020. For a closer look, you can check out the brand new trailer for the game below:
