This summer, when you were playing through Brace Yourself Games’ excellent Zelda spin-off Cadence of Hyrule, did you catch yourself wondering “why is Octavo trying to take over Hyrule”? If so, the developers have some great news for you. Starting today, the team has released a new, free update called ‘Octavo’s Ode‘, which reveals the conductor’s true intentions.

Cadence of Hyrule takes the Zelda universe and throws in a heaping dose of gameplay from Crypt of the Necrodancer. On release, the game was well-received by critics and fans alike. The 25 remixed old-school Zelda tunes make for perfect beats to slay monsters to in that classic Necrodancer style. It’s hard to remember a better spin-off in the Zelda franchise.
And now, we’re getting a bit of Bowser’s Inside Story turn to the tale. No, we’re not going inside of Octavo’s body, but we are getting a better look at what makes the main villain of Cadence tick. I’ve always been a sucker for getting the scoop on my favorite villains as far back as reading The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs in elementary school. This sounds like the perfect way to occupy some time on the long car trip back home for the holiday.
Cadence of Hyrule is out now on Nintendo Switch. The new update, Octavo’s Ode, is out today and free to anyone who owns the game. On top of all that, the game is currently on sale in the Nintendo eShop, making now a great time to pick up Brace Yourself Games’ excellent spin-off.
