Gearbox Software and 2K Games announced the release date for Borderlands 3 this morning and in the process, the game went live on most digital and physical storefronts for pre-order. On one product page specifically, though, it seems as though a currently unannounced feature for the game could have been divulged.

According to the official Borderlands 3 page on the Microsoft Store, the game will support cross-platform co-op. This is assumed to be across PC and Xbox One platforms, considering that Sony and the PS4 rarely offer crossplay with other platforms with a few exceptions. If crossplay is indeed to be supported, it’d be a huge win for those looking to play with friends across other avenues.

It’s hard to know at the moment whether or not cross-platform co-op will indeed be a feature in Borderlands 3 or if this mention on the game’s page is accidental. Publication IGN reached out to 2K Games for a comment on the matter but the publisher didn’t confirm or deny whether or not crossplay would be implemented. “Cross play is something we’re looking at closely, but don’t have anything to confirm or announce at this time,” 2K said in response to the matter.

Borderlands 3 seems like such a perfect candidate for crossplay so I’m really hoping that this comes to fruition. We’ll keep you posted if there are any further developments in this story as time goes on.

Borderlands 3 is slated to release later this year on September 13 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC via the Epic Games Store.
