For April Fools’ Day, certain models in Borderlands 3 including the Gunner’s mech and the Beastmaster’s pets have shrunk.
The official Borderlands Twitter account asked players “Who’s having fun out in the Borderlands today”, in minuscule text teasing their little prank. The official Gearbox account joined in with some tiny text of their own, encouraging players to head home and play.

Personally, I play as Moze and got a quick laugh from watching a miniature mech easily slaughter enemies two or three times its size. Despite its decreased size my Iron Bear mech is still insanely powerful, answering the age-old question; “Does size matter?” If anything, I’d say this is a buff to Iron Bear. After all, the mech is now able to fit through doorways that were previously too small. Meanwhile, my co-op partner who plays the Beastmaster had his spider-ant pet shrink down to the size of a large shoe.
This amusing visual change is a massive improvement from last April when Gearbox pranked games around the world by making Borderlands 3 a six-month Epic Store exclusive on PC. Regardless, it’s a great time to play Borderlands. It’s one of my personal favorite comforting co-op games and currently has an event running where rare loot drops frequently in co-op through most of April. Additionally, the second of four planned DLC expansions just recently released. Unfortunately, Gearbox is in the news today for other reasons as controversial CEO Randy Pitchford has found himself in another big mess.
Borderlands 3 is available now on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia.
