Before Rage 2 was officially revealed this morning, we reported last week how the game’s appearance on a speculative listing by Walmart Canada led to Bethesda to respond. Many thought that if not for the retail listing of Rage 2 essentially outing the game’s existence, Bethesda Softworks would have potentially opted to not reveal the project until E3.
It seems that this assumption is wrong, however, according to Bethesda’s VP of Marketing, Pete Hines. After the game’s formal reveal, Hines took to Twitter to respond to whether or not the publisher would have stayed silent about Rage 2 until E3 had the Walmart Canada listing not occurred. Hines stated that the teaser trailer was scheduled to happen today regardless of that leak.
Plan was originally to start teasing on Friday, teaser trailer today, gameplay tomorrow. We just improvised and adapted because my team is awesome and we thought it’d be fun (it was). https://t.co/JXoMKwXpKQ

It seems that the only thing the Walmart Canada listing of Rage 2 did was advance Bethesda’s timetable by a single day. Hines also said that this leak allowed them to have a bit more fun with the slow reveal of Rage 2, which was clearly seen from the game’s Twitter account which poked fun at the retail listing.
We’ll be hearing more about Rage 2 tomorrow when the first gameplay trailer for the title goes live. Until then, be sure to check out the reveal trailer if you haven’t done so yet.
