Nova Scotia-based developer Casual Bit Games has revealed that its tremendously successful Kickstarter title, Battle Princess Madelyn, will release sometime during Q1 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Wii U.
Additionally, the Canadian developer has also released a brand new trailer, showcasing a bit of gameplay, a few new boss fights, and tinsy bits of the opening animated sequence.
For those that don’t know: Battle Princess Madelyn is a game set in the vein of classics like Ghouls N’ Ghosts and Wonder Boy 3: The Dragon’s Trap, and that follows the journey of a young knight in training, Madelyn, who is accompanied by her ghostly pet dog, Fritzy. The two together, set out on a journey to save her kingdom and her family from the clutches of an evil wizard.
The game takes primarily in a fictitious version of medieval Ireland, but via a magic device, Madelyn will also be transported to other parts of the globe, like the snowy mountainsides of Russia where her grandparents reside, to Spain where she will fight alongside a special cameo character. She will also at one point find herself taking on a lumbering monster in Germany to save a girl who has been offered up as a sacrifice and a possessed toy maker’s creation in Italy.
A story description continues:
Throughout the story, Madelyn will be taken on a journey of self-discovery. A somewhat self-assured princess is humbled by her dilemma and surroundings. As she helps more and more people, albeit reluctantly at first, she soon realizes that her journey to save her family isn’t just about that, or about her, it’s about helping people around her as well and that sometimes no matter how hard you try, not everything you seek is obtainable and that and that sometimes, no matter how hard you may try, not everything you seek is obtainable…
In addition to the game’s story, Battle Princess Madelyn also features a 10 level Arcade mode aimed at action hungry old school gamers, with levels designed specifically for a fast action arcade experience.
A price-point for Battle Princess Madelyn has not been divulged. Below, you can check out the new aforementioned trailer, showcasing the game’s beautiful hand-drawn pixel art in action.
