When it first released earlier this year, the quirky indie puzzle game Baba is You quickly drew attention and became one of this year’s most acclaimed games. As a puzzle game that is more about breaking the rules than following them, Baba is You challenged what we traditionally think of from most puzzle games, and now players will get to craft and devise their own challenging levels sometime next year.
Baba is You developer Hempuli Oy revealed that the game will be getting a level editor and the ability for players to share their own levels sometime next year, in an update for the acclaimed puzzle game.
According to Oy, level sharing for Baba is You will be available across all platforms, allowing Nintendo Switch users and PC/Mac/Linux players to share their levels (and play other user-made levels) regardless of platform or storefront that they purchased the game from. However, for the Nintendo Switch version of the game specifically, it’s unclear whether this feature will require a Nintendo Switch Online subscription or not, which Oy said will be clarified closer to the level editor’s addition next year.
In addition to the announcement of the level editor and sharing features, a trailer for the level editor in Baba is You was also released (via GamesRadar+), which you can find and watch for yourself below.
When it released back in March, we happened to like Baba is You quite a bit thanks to its challenging puzzle gameplay and unique premise. Despite the fact that the game’s original levels are challenging enough already, it will be interesting to see how the game’s playerbase will be able to craft even more challenging and twisty levels. Move over, Super Mario Maker 2 – you’ve got competition now on the Switch.
Baba is You is available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac, and Linux. For a closer look at the game’s upcoming level editor in action, you can check out the trailer below:
