Thomas Happ Games and BadLand Games officially announced a Nintendo Switch version of the popular indie Metroidvania Axiom Verge today. This port of the game will also get a physical release alongside the previously announced PS4, PS Vita, and Wii U versions called Axiom Verge: Multiverse Edition.
Axiom Verge: Multiverse Edition contains the following items:
- Copy of Axiom Verge on disc/cartridge.
- Deluxe booklet with developer’s commentary and art.
- Double-sided poster with the world map and weapons/items in the game.
- Exclusive making-of documentary.
- Soundtrack CD (Available only on the Nintendo Switch).
The aforementioned documentary was handled by 2 Player Productions, and sheds light on the game’s five year development, the games that inspired Axiom Verge, and how lone-wolf developer Thomas Happ balanced developing Axiom Verge and caring for his special needs son. Thomas Happ had the following to say about the documentary:
“People often asked me about the early days of Axiom Verge – about how I was able to make a game completely on my own over the course of 5 years of evenings and weekends while holding down a full time job. The long form documentary format really made it possible for me to take the time and explain that process as well as go into some detail about the difficulties of balancing work and family responsibilities.”
For those who don’t know, Axiom Verge focuses on a man named Trace, who awakens after a lab accident on an alien world named Sundra. This sets Trace off on a quest to uncover Sundra’s secrets while taking on evil being called Athetos. It released on PS4 to critical acclaim back in March of 2015, and subsequently made its way to PC, PS Vita, Wii U, and Xbox One, with many requesting a Nintendo Switch version of the game.
