Yesterday saw the Apple WWDC 2020 conference take place online in a pre-recorded presentation detailing numerous iPhone and Apple product thingymajig’s. One of the announcements was the upcoming Apple TV support for the Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 and the Xbox Adaptive Controller.
While the controller support was only announced for the upcoming tvOS 14 update, there’s a good chance that the support should carry over to other devices running on the upcoming iOS 14 update. Hopefully, the introduction of these two controllers will mean that players will be able to remap controls within some games, and in the case of the Xbox Adaptive Controller, find more games accessible.

Controller support isn’t a new venture for Apple, last year the introduction of iOS 13 and the Apple TV’s tvOS 13 allowed support for the Xbox One S and PS4 DualShock 4 controllers. This introduction was welcomed considering Apple was, at the time, still to launch Apple Arcade, a subscription service that allows the user to play games across Apple devices, including iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV.
In addition, Apple TV users will be able to continue playing their games right where they left off as well as being able to switch between users through the control center. Users will be able to see other player’s progress as well, what achievements they’ve earned, and even who they’re friends with.
You can watch the Apple conference here, and the Apple TV segment is available at around 1:03:00. It’s also highlighted as a chapter so you can just search for that. The Apple TV section isn’t particularly detailed so hopefully, we’ll learn more about the update when it gets closer to rolling out on devices later this year.
