To say Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons is popular would be an understatement. If you own a Nintendo Switch, I’m guessing your friends list is mostly populated by people playing the game. Between the global pandemic and the long wait for a new mainline Animal Crossing game, it has culminated in a perfect scenario for people to jump in. People want something fun and cheery to keep them occupied and their minds off the news.
One of its features taking the Twitterverse by storm is the Custom Design feature. This allows players to create clothing, paintings, and more using a simple grid-based pixel artboard. There is a lot of creativity flaunted with the simple art tool resulting in some pretty impressive pieces.
Here are some examples of some of the best work we have seen.
Hanging Pieces
Early in the game, you are able to upgrade your quaint little tent into a house. This upgrade brings a number of perks, including the ability to hang things on the walls! People have been recreating album covers, murals, and portraits, some of which are really breathtaking!
Spent way too long drawing this when I should’ve been working on a paper. Might as well share it with you guys from r/AnimalCrossing

Fashion
Intrepid fashionistas are taking to the design application and recreating some of your favorite characters outfits in extraordinary detail. The craftsmanship that some people put into their designs is remarkable!

Floor Graphics
By utilizing transparency, people have been able to create decals and collages on the ground. Including recreations of popular game scenes, messages, and bloody trails, these creators have added all sorts of charm to their island getaway.
Some chose the path of @DOOM, while some chose to walk through the @animalcrossing… but those of TRUE vision choose to subvert such limitations. pic.twitter.com/J3Chzjvnys

As people have their hands on this game longer and more people join in, the number of creations will continue to grow. Considering Animal Crossing: New Horizons hasn’t even been out a week and we are already seeing such detailed and impressive works of art, I can’t begin to imagine what we will see a month from now. It is the perfect game for the state some of us may be currently living in. A wonderful escape to an island paradise where we can play in the sand, make cool clothes, and tune out everything around us.
Speaking of Animal Crossin: New Horizons creations, someone managed to recreate Ellie from The Last of Us with the Custom Design feature.
