Final Fantasy VII Remake is releasing April 10, but those who pre-ordered the game through Amazon might have a problem getting it on launch day.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the online retailer has suspended shipments of non-essential products to its warehouses in an effort to meet higher-priority demands for medical supplies and household staples. On the heels of that news, word started pouring in over Twitter that Amazon sent out emails to alert customers that Remake’s release date has changed to “not yet available.”

The coronavirus has had a heavy effect on the video game industry, canceling major events like the Game Developers Conference and E3, and causing many developers and publishers to institute work-from-home policies in an attempt to prevent the virus from spreading. But to this point, no major game release has been delayed because of the virus, Final Fantasy VII Remake included.

Amazon Video Games tweeted early Wednesday morning that the April 10 release date is still in place, but given the company’s ban on non-essential shipments, failed to clarify if that means fans who pre-ordered a physical copy of the game will still receive it that same day.

Final Fantasy VII Remake has easily been one of 2020’s most anticipated titles, and after nearly five years, fans surely won’t want to wait any longer to finally play the game if they don’t have to.

It’s unclear whether Amazon shipments for other upcoming games have been affected, and it doesn’t seem that other major retailers like Best Buy or GameStop have any changes in plans. But as always, we’ll keep you posted.

In the meantime, maybe keep the thought of a digital purchase in your back pocket.
