20th Century Fox Film Corporation has filed a trademark application for Alien: Blackout just weeks before Geoff Keighley’s annual The Game Awards takes place. The filing comes after recent teases across The Game Awards’ social media channels that hint at an Alien game being revealed at the event.
The trademark states the use of the title is under the following categories:
“Computer game discs; software, namely, game software, computer game and video game software, downloadable computer game software, downloadable mobile application software used for playing electronic games and streaming audiovisual and multimedia content in the fields of games and entertainment, interactive game software, and downloadable software […]”
It’s a long list, so we shortened it, but the main thing to take away is that the trademark specifically is for a video game titled Alien: Blackout and it was filed on November 22, 2018. We can assume from this that an announcement is imminent and we can also predict that announcement will be at this years’ The Game Awards ceremony.
We can assume that after quite a few factors have come into play on social media. Firstly, Geoff Keighley announced that The Game Awards 2018 will have the most world exclusive game reveals in the show’s history once it begins on December 6, 2018.
The ceremony’s official Twitter account has backed off from teasing any of the projects that are going to be taking center stage next month, or have they? Just 4 days ago (2 days before the trademark filing for Alien: Blackout), the account responded to a tweet from Hideo Kojima, a longtime friend of Keighley’s and an acclaimed video game producer, visiting 20th Century Fox and seeing an array of Alien related props from the sets of the films.
Initially, it seemed that the response was just another factor of either producers’ relationship with one another, but looking back it’s almost certainly a tease that something to do with Alien will be revealed this year. You can see for yourself the peculiarity of this tweet.
World will change!

Worlds will change is this year’s slogan for the ceremony, and it was announced over a month ago – however, it seems like a weird tweet to respond to with the slogan. Of course, this is all speculation and we won’t know for sure what 20th Century Fox have cooking up for the project. For all we know, it’s a mobile game.
The Game Awards 2018 broadcasts globally on December 6, 2018, at the times below.
