Last December, developer Angry Mob Games released their Super Smash Bros. inspired fighting game Brawlout on Nintendo Switch. It wound up doing quite well, selling over 50,000 copies in just two weeks on the Switch’s eShop. Today, Angry Mob Game announced that they will be expanding Brawlout’s reach by partnering with Merge Games to release a physical edition of the game on Switch.
Merge Games is a publisher known for assisting in the physical releases of several indie games. Most recently, the announced that they were partnering with Red Hook Studios to release Darkest Dungeon physically on PS4 and Nintendo Switch. As purchasing games digitally only becomes more and more prevalent, it is nice to see that those who would prefer to get games physically have the chance to pick up Brawlout. Luke Keighran, Managing Director at Merge Games, had the following to say about the physical version of Brawlout:
“We are delighted to have teamed-up with Angry Mob Games. Brawlout is an awesome title and partnering with Angry Mob Games has been a great experience. We believe Brawlout on the Switch will be warmly welcomed by retailers and fans alike.”
Bogdan Iliesiu, CEO of Angry Mob Games also commented on releasing Brawlout physically, while also revealing that the game sold over 80,000 copies in its first month:
“Brawlout had such an amazing reception on Nintendo Switch, with a dedicated community of over 80K players in its first month alone. It’s impressive, and humbling, to see people throw themselves so wholeheartedly into Brawlout and we hope to cater to even more types of gamers with the physical release!”
For those of you who want to know more about Brawlout, it is a four-player competitive platform fighting game. It is clear that the game takes tons of inspiration from the Super Smash Bros. series, even incorporating more advanced techniques like wavedashing into the game. The game features offline, local, and online play, so its got something for most fighting game fans. The physical version of Brawlout is expected to release sometime in May.
