While Motion Twins’ rogue-lite Metroidvania Dead Cells is still enjoying success as an Early Access title, the developer has revealed that the title will be making its way to home consoles. And it seems like no system — besides explicitly the Ouya — will be getting sidelined, as it is slated to launch for Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One in 2018.
Although Motion Twins has yet to settle on a release date, they have released a brand new reveal trailer — this time focusing on console gameplay. With a stylish presentation and artstyle, the game looks as fluid and action-packed as ever, with clear inspiration from the Castlevania series.
Alongside this announcement, we got a rough estimate of how successful the early access period has been for both Dead Cells and Motion Twins. According to the press release, the title has sold more than 600,000 copies already, prior to the official release. Additionally, a playable version of the game on console should be available as early as PAX East in March, according to Producer Steve Filby.
If you haven’t heard of Dead Cells, you’ve been missing out. Alongside Team Cherry’s Hollow Knight, Dead Cells was one of the most prominent indie darlings to come out of 2017. The game has you take on the titular “dead cells” — a The Last of Us like virus that can control and animate dead beings. Your goal is to escape a prison and collect more of these cells by defeating enemies. The game features, among other things, procedurally generated environments and other carry-overs of the rogue-lite genre.
At the moment, Dead Cells is available exclusively for PC in Early Access; though obviously, you can wait for later this year for the game to come to Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One. You can check out the console reveal trailer, below:
