Bluehole and PUBG Corp. are preparing to release version 1.0 of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on PC on December 20, finally bringing the game out of Early Access. Today, the developers revealed they are partnering with Seoul-based game technology company Minkonet to add 3D Replay and Killcam features to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds when it officially launches on December 20.
The 3D Replay creates a “seamless” playback video of a player’s gameplay, letting others observe them in game after they die. This should help to create better-looking streams, which is a huge component of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds’ success. According to Minkonet, their technology makes sure there is minimal playback slowdown or gamer lag.
Meanwhile, Killcam will function similarly to most titles it is in. It allows players to see how another player killed them; in turn, this allows players to find out how they can approve while also making it easier to find people who are cheating. Minkonet also claims that their Killcam provides a better all-around viewpoint than most currently used on the market.
Minkonet says they aim to shop this feature around to other developers making online-focused games. The studio even recently opened offices in Los Angeles in an attempt to showcase their services in the North American market. Peter Kim, Co-Founder and CEO of Minkonet, had the following to say about developing these features for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds:
“Building replay systems for battle royale, open world and massively multiplayer online games that typically feature huge maps and many objects interacting in real time presents many technical challenges. We know expectations from the community are high and our team worked side-by-side with the PUBG developers to design and deliver a never-before-seen, immersive replay experience that is sure to deliver countless hours of ‘wow-factor’ moments and shareable content.”
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is currently available on PC via Early Access on Steam and Xbox One through the Game Preview program, though the game will come out of Early Access and add the aforementioned features on December 20.
