Today, during a livestream from the Square Enix headquarters in Tokyo, Square Enix showcased several aspects of the upcoming PS4 exclusive Dissidia Final Fantasy NT.

The gameplay was introduced by Director Takeo Kujiraoka and Producer Ichiro Hazama, with a special remote appearance of Tetsuya Nomura himself.

First of all, we get to see the in-game menus, starting with the Online Battle and offline battles options. Within the offline menu we see Rush battle, Battle, and the Story Mode with a sequence of branching events. We even get to see the cinematic at the very beginning of the story mode.

After that, Kujiraoka-san moved on to show the “Treasure” menu, which is basically a loot box system. Before you run to the closet to grab your pitchforks, no real money appears to be involved, and all the goodies you can get are exclusively cosmetic. We saw player icons, music tracks, chat emotes and skins (with skins being the rare option). Treasure boxes are received by playing the game, and individual rewards can also be unlocked separately by spending gil (Final Fantasy‘s hallmark currency) earned in game.

The options menu was then showcased, including selection menus for EX Skills selection, skins and weapons, and emotes. A background music menu also lets you create your own playlist among a myriad of tracks from the Final Fantasy series.

We also get a rather extensive tutorial showing the basics followed by a few matches, including a fight against Odin, and some multiplayer. Summon battkes will also have a Hard Mode, while today we see the Normal Mode.

You can watch the relevant gameplay clips below,  alongside a new trailer showing some bonus DLCs. If you want to see more, you can enjoy the opening cutscene by Visual Works, a recent trailer featuring Materia and Spiritus, screenshots from the story mode and more, gameplay and images showcasing Noctis, costumes and colorsthe story in video form and in another gallery of recent screenshots, and the introduction of Golbez.

Of course, you should also take a good look at our interview with Director Takeo Kujiraoka and Producer Ichiro Hazama.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT will launch in North America and Europe on January 30th, 2018 exclusively for PS4.
