Project Eve was one of the many upcoming PS5 games featured at the latest PlayStation Showcase on September 9, and part of the NieR Automata fanbase has been criticizing the Korean game, calling it a rip-off – turns out Yoko Taro himself shared his thoughts on the matter.
Whether you believe Project Eve is a rip-off of NieR Automata or not, I’m sure you can’t help but make comparisons. Both are action RPGs and take place in a post-apocalyptic world. Featuring a beautiful female android as the protagonist.
Personally, I believe it’s a bit too early to say anything though. We don’t know much about Project Eve’s story. And the battle system’s intricate details are still a mystery. Project Eve might as well be quite different in those regards compared to NieR Automata. Sure, we’ve seen a lot of fights and gameplay, but we have no official game system breakdown. We just know that there’s quite a lot of QTEs. Alongside a Bullet Time feature straight outta Bayonetta (or Max Payne / Matrix depending on your references).

Yoko Taro shares his thoughts on Project Eve via Twitter
Yoko Taro, the creative director of the NieR series, is actually pretty excited for Project Eve. After the PlayStation Showcase, he shared a simple and concise tweet: “I’m BUYING this” while quote retweeting the news. Looks like he isn’t bothered at all about how similar to NieR Automata the game could be.
Yoko Taro actually already praised Project Eve in the past too, right after it was first revealed on April 4, 2019. He said he was looking forward to the game.
Yoko Taro has always been pretty outspoken about liking games. He highly praised Vanillaware’s 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim and even went as far as jokingly saying he doesn’t care if Atlus goes bankrupt as long as Vanillaware survives.
Be sure to check out the actual new trailer for Project Eve if you haven’t yet, along with our own impressions.
