Five Features We’d Like To See In The Rumored Super Nintendo Switch Pro

Over the last 24 hours, the rumour mill has started churning once again. Reports from news outlet Bloomberg have suggested that the new “Super Nintendo Switch” or “Nintendo Switch Pro” will enter production in June and be out by the end of this year. The device will reportedly have an Oled handheld screen and be 4K compatible when docked. However, aside from hardware changes, there are a few things I’d like to see from this Super Nintendo Switch.

An Achievement System

Achievements and trophies aren’t for everybody, for me however, I love them. I love playing games, but having achievements to chase gives certain titles more of a sense of purpose. I feel like Nintendo is definitely worse off without them.

I’d love to go back to Breath of the Wild and hunt more Koroks for the achievement or revisit Mario Odyssey to find more moons. There’s already such a deep catalogue on the Switch that it would add some great replayability to some already stellar games. It could prove to be fairly difficult to add them retrospectively, however.

A Super Nintendo Switch Online Infrastructure

Now, this is not a particularly new request from Nintendo fans, but it goes without saying that the Switch’s online infrastructure is sub-par at best. I’ve had many a game of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate lag out on me, it’s a pain in the backside adding friends and there’s still no native voice chat, four years after release. This is something that needs an immediate revamp, especially as we’re paying for the service now.

A Super Nintendo Switch Virtual Console

Nintendo, let me give you my money. I appreciate you’re letting me play a handful of NES and SNES game as part of my Switch Online Membership, but I would like to pay cold hard cash for some N64, Game Boy and even, if you’re feeling up to it, Gamecube games.

It’s still baffling that Nintendo isn’t capitalising more on their back catalogue of games, especially given how well it worked on the Nintendo Wii. Four years in, however, I’m starting to feel like it’s not going to happen.

Better Customisation Options

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve grown accustomed to my Dark Mode theme on my Nintendo Switch over the last few years but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like more customisation options. Give me some themes for preordering games, regular updates with more display pictures, anything to keep my Switch feeling fresh with this new, rumoured console.

Joy-Cons that Actually Last

Okay, so I know Joy-Cons technically fall under hardware, but I’m not looking for them to be upgraded or changed, I just want them to work. I, like others before me, have fallen foul of the Joy-Con drift issue, and £60 to replace controllers that are faulty, through no fault of my own isn’t great. I’m sure this is something Nintendo is working on internally, especially with the lawsuits going on, but the sooner the better if you ask me.
