This year sees The Legend of Zelda celebrate an incredible milestone. One of Nintendo’s biggest pillars of success turns 35 this year, joining Mario (who turned 35 last year) and Metroid. Since Skyward Sword HD was confirmed for the Nintendo Switch, there has been lots of speculation about which games should join it. I take a look at Wind Waker, A Link to the Past and other Zelda games that deserve some Switch love.

Wind Waker HD Switch Port

After a lukewarm reception when it was revealed, Wind Waker has gone on to become one of the beloved games in the Zelda series. The stylish graphics, sense of exploration and gripping story make this a top tier game and one which should definitely have a place on Nintendo’s hybrid console.

Rumours have been heating up that a Wind Waker Switch port is “100% coming this year”, so it’s time to keep everything crossed.

A Link to the Past Remake

Yes, you can already play A Link to the Past as part of the Nintendo Switch SNES Online service, but can you imagine this game getting the remake treatment ala Link’s Awakening? A Link to the Past is already referred to as one of the best Zelda games of all time, if not one of the best games overall, so why not give it the love it deserves.

Minish Cap Remake

For me, Minish Cap is easily one of the best handheld Zelda titles. It’s a game that’s not talked about as often as it should be and it’s one that deserves more. It sold less than two million copies on the GBA and you can bet, given the Link’s Awakening treatment, would sell double or even triple that this year.

Ocarina of Time/Majora’s Mask Double Pack

Okay, this one is a little obvious. Everybody has played them (or at least Ocarina of Time) and they’re already on basically every other Nintendo Console in some way shape or form, so why do we need them again? Because they’re classics. Both of them.

I may be wrong, but I can’t imagine too much work would need to be done to get them ready for the Switch and they would definitely sell. Lots.

Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks Double Pack

Now, I know these games aren’t the best or the most beloved but given a lick of paint and a second chance on the Nintendo Switch could do really well. They sold nearly 8 million copies between them on the Nintendo DS and, marketed correctly, could do close to that on the Switch. I think.

The Legend of Zelda 35

Super Mario 35 was fun. It was a different take on the battle royale genre for everybody’s favourite plumber’s 35th anniversary. Given that the Mario edition is supposedly leaving the Switch on March 31, what better way to replace it than with a similar version of The Legend of Zelda.
