The upcoming Mass Effect Legendary Edition will offer longtime fans and a new audience the chance to enjoy BioWare’s acclaimed trilogy of sci-fi RPGs. Thankfully, we don’t have too much longer to wait with its recently-announced launch in May. While the collection is planned to launch on consoles and PC, BioWare may be leaving some room for a Switch release, according to comments from one of the series’ longtime creative heads.
Speaking with Eurogamer, BioWare’s Mac Walters gave some additional insight into the upcoming Mass Effect Legendary Edition, which revamps the original trilogy with enhanced visuals and new features. On the question of whether the Legendary Edition could come to the Switch, Walters explained that BioWare’s priority was to optimize the collection’s release on consoles and PC. However, Walters stated that he’d “love it” if the collection could also come to Switch. He added that while the studio had a “path set” for the platforms it will be on at launch, he left room for the studio to “sort of see where we’re at” for a Switch release.
Initially, the long-rumored Mass Effect collection was suggested to be coming to the Switch last year, but so far that hasn’t panned out officially. With these rumors coming mostly from retail listings, there’s no firm confirmation yet that we’ll be able to play the Mass Effect on the go. However, Walters’ comments make it clear that the studio is at least considering the possibility that the title could make its way to Nintendo’s handheld.
Mass Effect: Legendary Edition will release for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on May 14, 2021. The collection will also be playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
