Fortnite is no stranger to limited-time modes and events. Last season’s Nexus War event, for example, was full of them. Players battled against each other to unlock a range of different cosmetics in the Marvel Knockout cups before players came together to take on Galactus in the season’s grand finale. The latest LTM, titled “The Spy Within”, is a little different from anything Fortnite has seen before but is very reminiscent of another one of this year’s runaway successes.
The Spy Within mode sees players split into two teams, The Agents and The Spies. The Spies have to try and eliminate The Agents without ever revealing their identities. Special meetings can be called by The Agents to discuss any suspicious behaviour that they may have seen. Sounds a lot like Among Us right?
The full rules of the game mode are as follows:
- Everyone starts a match only knowing which team they are on. The identity of all other players is hidden.
- Two players — known as The Spies — will try to eliminate other players without revealing their identity. They must do so before the crew completes their objectives.
- Eight players — known as The Agents — will work together to identify spies and vote them out before the spies eliminate all other players. The Agents must gather gold coins — earned by completing objectives — to win.
- Players cannot speak to one another in voice chat unless they are in a Meeting.
- Players can call Meetings whenever they spot a character or are suspicious of another player. Players can now talk and discuss who they are suspicious of. They can choose to vote someone out, which eliminates them. Spies need to be careful, otherwise they will raise suspicions and get voted out!
Players who play in and complete The Spy Within challenge pack will unlock a range of goodies including a special skate deck variant and glider.
