A few months earlier, there were some strong rumors around AT&T’s probable plans for selling WB Games, it’s gaming division, however, it seems the plan is no longer available as the new reports reveal that WB Games will still stay as a part of AT&T.
According to a recent story by Bloomberg, there was a change in AT&T’s leadership back in July this year, when the former CCO John Stankey was promoted to work as the company’s CEO. From that point on, the owner of Warner Bros. Media has changed its mind on selling its gaming division, regarding the existence of some talented studios at WB Games that could bring huge growth to the company’s financial performance.
From the time it was rumored that AT&T might consider selling its gaming studios, some sources referred to Activision-Blizzard, Electronic Arts, Take-Two Interactive, and Microsoft as the potential customers who were interested in acquiring Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. But now, it seems there is going to be no deals for Warner Bros. Games, at least not in the near future.
Rocksteady, WB Montreal, Monolith Productions, Nether Realm Studios, Avalanche Studios, TT Games, and several other small development teams are all working under the wing of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. If there was a deal for selling all these studios, it would probably cost something between $2 million to $4 million.
WB Games currently has two major projects for the upcoming years: Gotham Knights from WB Montreal which is set to be released next year for current-gen and next-gen consoles along with PC, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League which will be available at some point in 2022 for PC and next-gen consoles. Also, there are some rumors around a Harry Potter game that could bring huge commercial success for WB Games in the future. Either Monolith Productions or Avalanche Studios might be the development team behind the rumored Harry Potter adaptation.
