Atelier Ryza 2

Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy appeared on the Australian Classification board on July 15. It was filled by Koei Tecmo Europe. (Thanks to RPG Site for pointing it out)

In November 2019, Koei Tecmo Producer Keisuke Kikuchi said Gust is working on five games: Fairy Tail, a new Atelier game, and three veiled titles. Koei Tecmo and Gust have been following a yearly release schedule for the Atelier series for a very long while now. In fact, usually by that time of the year, the next game has been announced, but surely the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic explains the current situation. Taking all of this into account, this rating news isn’t surprising.

The most surprising element is the name of the rating itself. If Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy really turns out to be a thing, it seems to indicate Ryza would be the protagonist again. Though one possibility would be a new protagonist, who also uses the nickname Ryza. Atelier Ryza 1‘s protagonist’s full name is Reisalin Stout.

Back in September 2019, Series Producer Junzo Hosoi had already confirmed Ryza would appear in the Atelier game following Atelier Ryza. That’s a common thing for the series these days. Working with trilogies, with the past protagonists making an appearance in the next games of the trilogy. It’ll be a change of pattern if Ryza is the protagonist two times in a row though.

Atelier trilogies also retain the same chara designer so it’s likely Toridamono will be working on Atelier Ryza 2 as well. In the past, we summarized one of the interviews Toridamono did for the release of Atelier Ryza. It includes cool early design rough artwork.

Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout first launched in Japan on September 26, 2019, and later on in the west. It’s available on PC, PS4 and Switch. It’s very likely Aelier Ryza 2 will come to the same platforms.

Atelier Ryza is also the best selling game in the franchise, surpassing 420,000 copies shipped worldwide. I explained the various reasons I believe are behind this success over here if you’re interested.
