Marvel’s Avengers will get a new gameplay showcase this June. That will likely be an exciting time for interested fans. However, today the studio announced some important updates concerning accessibility and diversity in the upcoming game. Crystal Dynamic’s Meagan Marie (Senior Community & Social Media Manager) and Mariah Robinson (Game Designer) sat down to talk about how the team is improving and incorporating these new initiatives into Marvel’s Avengers. Give the full interview a look at Square Enix’s site, if you’d like.
Accessibility is an ongoing pursuit, and we're excited to share our journey so far. Visit the Square Enix blog for details on how we're improving accessibility options and representation in Marvel's Avengers!https://t.co/flWXawPdZX pic.twitter.com/fyZ9yLwau3

There is, as you might expect, quite a bit to digest from the interview. However, one of the neater points touched on is that the studio brought in Cherry Thompson to do some motion capture for the studio in their wheelchair. This should make NPC idle movements much more realistic in the final production. Thompson was also able to provide key insight as the team worked toward their end goal.
Marie and Robinson spoke to how the studio is working to improve in-game diversity. They also detailed the steps Crystal took to receive its APXP certification. Finally, the duo touched on a few of the key features Marvel’s Avengers will have in terms of accessibility.
Notably, the game will feature a high contrast user interface, helping low-vision users more easily see the info they need. The game’s controls will be fully remappable, will feature character-associated subtitles, and more. And, these aren’t the only options Marvel’s Avengers plans to have. The team is very open to post-launch improvement. They have already set up an e-mail for players to contact if they have any ideas to improve accessibility. That ongoing commitment to accessibility is great to see from a studio as big as Crystal Dynamics.
Marvel’s Avengers will launch for Google Stadia, PC, PS4, and Xbox One on September 4.
