MiHoYo held from March to April a new Closed Beta Test for its online action RPG Genshin Impact. Following the test’s closure, Genshin Impact Producer Hugh Tsai shared a new development update. In it, he most notably stressed out Genshin Impact will “eventually launch as a free-to-play game” and will be “fair to the players”. More details regarding the monetization of Genshin Impact and its free to play status will be coming at a later date.

In terms of gameplay, Genshin Impact is also often mislabeled as an MMORPG, while the whole adventure will be enjoyable solo. Players will be able to enjoy the game the way they want. You’ll be adventuring with friends and/or strangers only when you feel like it.

As for the Beta Test and its feedback: Globally, multiple players pointed out Genshin Impact lacked content after over 50 hours of playtime. The Beta Test was three weeks long, and as such, many players reached that state. Producer Hugh Tsai mentioned more and more content will be added in the future. This will include new dungeons, daily quests, and more multiplayer content.

Lastly, we also learned a Guild-like system will be implemented in Genshin Impact at some point. It’s called the Homeland system.
