Considering everything going on right now, it might be a while before you get back on a subway. Well luckily, Cyberpunk 2077 is here with a new wallpaper to remind you how much subways can suck sometimes, and how they could be even worse.
You can find the wallpaper on the game’s official Twitter account, and naturally, it’s free to download. It shows a scene unfolding in one of Night City’s many subway stations. Of course, it isn’t a pretty one, although it captures the essence of the cyberpunk genre – acceptance of things far outside the norm.
In the background, massive armored police officers hold a crowd away from a subway car, armed with futuristic rifles and metal riot shields. The foreground shows a different scene, with V sitting next to a businessman, who’s leaned back and relaxed, listening to something through headphones. V somehow looks just about as calm as the guy next to him, although instead of a briefcase, he’s carrying a pistol. Off to the left is the cause behind all the commotion; a pair of legs stick out from off-screen, with a trail of blood leaking out from them.
While this wallpaper is just cool to look at, it also tells us a little bit more about the world of Cyberpunk 2077. We get a good look at what Night City PD looks like and the equipment they sport. I didn’t mention it before, but their armor includes helmets with long ear-antennas poking out from the back. Who says deadly force doesn’t have to look cute?
Anyway, we also see how civilians have adjusted to this kind of reality. As it turns out, this looks like just another day. Besides the businessman taking a nap during his commute, the faces on civilians in the background tell their own story. It’s not a long one, more of a “Come on man, I need to catch my train” kind of thing. Good to know that the game does keep itself based somewhat in reality.
Like I said before, you can find this wallpaper on the official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter. Alternatively, you can go straight to the game’s site. If you’re looking to spruce up your desktop with more Cyberpunk art, there’s also animated artwork to check out.
Cyberpunk 2077 is launching September 17 on PS4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and PC.
