Annapurna Interactive has been on a roll lately with a string of critically and commercially-successful games such as Sayonara Wild Hearts, Untitled Goose Game, and Wattam. The company in particular has had a specific eye for quirky, colorful, and unusual indie games with a heavy narrative focus, with the publisher revealing a new title that will be arriving on Switch and PC later this year, called I Am Dead.
During Nintendo’s Indie World presentation today, publisher Annapurna Interactive shared a trailer for one of its upcoming new titles called I Am Dead. Aside from its unusual name, the trailer gives us a look at the game’s artistic vibe and visuals, and seems to be taking players on a trip where they get to explore the afterlife. According to Annapurna, the game is in development by Hollow Ponds Games and Richard Hogg, which comes from the creators of Wilmot’s Warehouse and Hohokum.
While we don’t have a ton to go off of just yet for what to expect from the game, we do know that it is a puzzle game that will seemingly involve the player taking on the role of a museum curator named Morris Lupton. Lupton will apparently team up with the ghost of his beloved dog to explore an island and piece together the events and memories that took place there in the past, in order to save the island from the impending threat of an erupting volcano.
Though the subject matter might sound intense, so far it seems like I Am Dead will take a bit more of a lighthearted approach to death and the afterlife. Coming from the pedigree of what Annapurna has delivered so far, hopefully we won’t have to wait too much longer to see what I Am Dead has in store for players.
I Am Dead is coming to Nintendo Switch and PC later this year. For a closer look at the game, you can check out the brand new trailer below:
