Clouded Leopard Entertainment is a localization company that handles bringing many Japanese games to the rest of Asia, with translations to traditional Chinese most notably. The company also handles the traditional Chinese localization of Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, and it held an event for the game and new releases on February 7, announcing upcoming releases in Asia. Falcom’s President Toshihiro Kondo was at the event, and he shared some comments about the Ys series.
When asked when Ys X will happen, Kondo mentioned Falcom is “already working on the next Ys game”, without specifying if it’s Ys X, a remake or something else like a spinoff. He mentioned many developers at Falcom wish to make something for the series’ 35th anniversary coming in 2022.
In an interview in December 2019, Kondo mentioned they don’t know what to do with Ys X specifically, making me believe the next game won’t be Ys X. In another event back in March 2019, Kondo mentioned Falcom would like to remake Ys V, seeing this is the only game in the series who has yet to get a new remake developed directly by Falcom. In my opinion, this is what we’ll get next.
The next new game Falcom is planning to release is The Legend of Heroes: Hajimari no Kiseki, in Summer 2020, most probably in the last days of September 2020. That’s just a guess of mine. And another guess, we’ll probably get the Kiseki game following Hajimari before getting another Ys game as well, seeing it’s been in development longer.
PS4 remasters for Zero no Kiseki and Ao no Kiseki are also coming in Japan on April 23 and May 28, 2020, respectively. They should be announced in the west at some point seeing Kondo said a western release is one of the main reasons why these ports exist in the first place.
In the west, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III is the latest Falcom game we got, available on PS4 and coming to PC on March 23. A Switch version should also release in Spring 2020. Trails of Cold Steel IV, Ys IX, Zero, Ao, and Hajimari no Kiseki all weren’t announced yet in the west but hopefully, everything will come over one day. Ys IX‘s western release was already teased by Falcom. The game is pretty awesome and is among my favorite games of 2019.
