Lenna’s Inception wears its Legend of Zelda inspiration on its sleeve. However, this is far from a simple Zelda knockoff. LI takes Zelda-like action-adventure and does everything it can to defy the usual conventions of the genre. And you don’t have to much longer to check it out for yourself. Lenna’s Inception launches on PC next Friday. Give the new trailer a watch below.
In Lenna’s Inception, you play as an unwilling hero in a quickly unraveling world. The actual hero is dead and you may be joining him soon if you don’t play your cards right. The game has several features that help it stand out from the crowd. For one, LI takes place in both 8- and 32-bit worlds. You’ll warp back and forth between the two art styles to help solve puzzles and encounter new parts of the story. The game is also procedurally generated, ensuring no two playthroughs are exactly the same.
Sticking with that, you’ll be able to replay Lenna’s Inception multiple times and experience several different endings and boss forms. In fact, it’s impossible to experience everything the game has to offer in a single playthrough. Players can also team up with their shadow self in local co-op. Simply put, while everything looks familiar on the surface, LI has quite a bit lurking under the surface for you to discover.
Lenna’s Inception comes to PC on January 17. The game was originally slated to be published by Chucklefish, but Bytten Studio recently decided to go the self-publishing route. It will be interesting to see how the game does with that move and if it will come to other consoles down the line. Either way, I’m very interested to give this expansion of the Zelda formula a try next week.
