It seems that for seven social media influencers, their Christmas just got “crashed” (okay sorry, that was bad). As it turns out, Activision has sent out Crash Bandicoot themed products, complete with little Santa hats on them. According to the tweet from Youtuber Canadian Guy Eh, these gifts were “out of the blue”most likely meaning that Activision didn’t tie them directly into a promotional campaign:

Apparently a similar situation occurred last year in which Activision sent out Crash themed Christmas cookies, according to Genelle Aimee:

Canadian Guy Eh retweeted the above tweet and added “Also, the cookies Came December 5th last year (my time) and its currently December 6th. It’s too similar and too close to be a fluke.” It could simply be a company using a clever and relatively subtle way to promote a mascot character and their games for the holiday season.
Or it could be a way for the company to be building up to a new game announcement for the The Game Awards, which is coming up this Thursday. There have already been talks of a new Crash title rumored to be arriving sometime in 2020, so it’s always a possibility. We’ll see when The Game Awards premieres its usual barrage of new titles and trailers.
The two latest games in the franchise are Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy, developed by Toys for Bob and published by Activision, and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, developed by Beenox and published by Activision.
Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled made top of the UK charts for two-straight weeks earlier this year. Meanwhile back in 2017 Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy also made the top of the charts in the UK for six weeks in total. And even in 2018 the game went back to the top of the charts whilst it was still a PS4 exclusive.
According to the financial results for 2018 revealed yesterday, Activision has stated that Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy has sold over 10 million units since the initial launch in 2017. While no figures are present, the results also state that Spyro Reignited Trilogy had a successful launch.
While the figure of units sold for Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy is fantastic, yesterday Activision also boasted that the company had a financially positive year with successes across the board. However, they also confirmed that — after days of employees being none the wiser — 8% of staff across Activision-Blizzard would be laid off. This equates to roughly 800 jobs being lost throughout the company’s publishing and esports wings.
