Do you remember Babylon’s Fall? It was announced for PS4 and Steam by Square Enix at their E3 2018 conference. Babylon’s Fall is developed by PlatinumGames, and we don’t actually know anything else about it. Except for the cryptic words and the scarce worldbuilding presented in the game’s sole trailer. Seeing PlatinumGames’ history, it’ll probably turn out to be an action game, but who knows?
Flashforward to November 18, 2019. Our Japanese comrades at Automaton published an interview with Yosuke Saito, one of Square Enix’ Executive Officers. In the interview, Yosuke Saito mentioned Babylon’s Fall is still in development and it’s one of the many projects at Square Enix he’s on. He added that we’ll get more news regarding Babylon’s Fall before the end of 2019.
Yosuke Saito is one of the prominent Producers at Square Enix, and he was appointed Executive Officer in 2018. Saito is closely related to Yoko Taro and was the producer of most of his games. Yosuke Saito is also one of the producers of the Dragon Quest MMORPG, Dragon Quest X. Lastly, Yosuke Saito is also the producer of Gems Company, a Niconico channel made of virtual YouTubers, and he made Yoko Taro into one of them too. Speaking of which, Saito mentioned in this interview he’s extremely busy, usually having meetings from 10 AM to 8 PM and then company trips and dinners. So he can’t work too much on Gems Company and make Yoko Taro reappear there.
If you’re into Yoko Taro, you should check out our translation of his thoughts on Vanillaware’s next game, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim.
