In an interview with Gamesindustry.biz, Koch Media’s CEO Klemens Kundratitz provides an update on Dead Island 2‘s development.

“Look, Dead Island is a very important brand for us and we’ve got to get it right,” says Kundratitz. “It’s just a testimony of our dedication to get it right.”

Dead Island 2 was announced back in 2014 with Yager Developments and Techland publishing it. Since then, it moved onto the Dying Light team, to Sumo Studios, and now it’s at Dambuster Studios. Previously, Dambuster worked on Homefront: Revolution and they’re the third team to take a crack at Dead Island 2.

Even though Dead Island 2 isn’t coming from Techland anymore, Koch Media, which is owned by THQ Nordic,  retains a good relationship with the developer. With Dying Light 2 launching in 2020, Kundratitz isn’t concerned about the conflict of interests. He goes onto say it would be a conflict if both games were launching around the same time, but it won’t be a problem for them.

“It’s a great story to tell everyone that it’s on its third studio, but we like to be judged on the end result and we’re really confident that when it comes out it’s going to be a kick-ass zombie game,” Kundratitz continues. “We’ll certainly give it all our power.”

The Dead Island franchise kicked off in 2011 and it spawned spin-offs such as 2013’s Dead Island: Riptide and 2014’s Escape Dead Island. Additionally, a MOBA spin-off in the series called Dead Island: Epidemic was in development but it got canceled in 2015.

While Dead Island 2 doesn’t have a release date, it’ll launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. If you’re interested, you can pick up Dead Island: Definitive Edition on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. As more news comes out about Dead Island 2, we’ll be sure to let you know.
