Following the release of Anthem earlier this year from BioWare, the studio’s next game will likely be that of Dragon Age 4. While BioWare may have formally revealed the title last year at The Game Awards 2018 though, it sounds like we shouldn’t expect to get our hands on it any time soon.
During EA’s recent financial call going over earnings from the past quarter, one investor inquired about the Dragon Age franchise and what it is that BioWare could be doing next. EA CFO Blake Jorgensen was very forthcoming about the fact that BioWare is currently hard at work on the fourth Dragon Age game, but he also added that it will probably be a very long time until it arrives.
“I mean you should assume that there is Dragon Age out there and we’ve talked about it publicly that it’s in the works, and it probably comes after fiscal ’22,” Jorgensen stated. “But we typically don’t give multi-year guidance this early in the year or multi-year guidance period. So I don’t want to start giving ’23 guidance now that I’ve started to hit on ’22.”
For reference with what Jorgensen is referring to here, EA’s fiscal year 2022 will end on March 31, 2022. This means that as of now, Dragon Age 4 is seemingly planned to launch in the company’s FY2023, meaning that the earliest it could release is on April 1, 2022, with the latest being March 31, 2023. As Jorgensen somewhat touches on though, this is all so far out that giving guidance at this current time for what might be released in this window is a bit hard to tell. Still, as of this moment, this seems to be the launch window for the next Dragon Age title.
Considering the last thing we heard about Dragon Age 4 was that the game’s development was rebooted in 2017, it makes sense that it would still be pretty far out. Let’s just hope that once it arrives, it can right the ship for BioWare and prove to be a fantastic title critically, unlike the studio’s past two releases in Anthem and Mass Effect: Andromeda.
