Coming after this weekend’s earlier conferences like EA and Microsoft, Sunday night was Bethesda’s chance to shine with plenty of new looks at upcoming titles, some surprises, and a couple updates to recent game releases.
While obviously we were expecting some new looks at titles like Wolfenstein: Youngblood and DOOM Eternal — which are both coming later this year — we also got a look at some new reveals like Tango Gameworks’ GhostWire: Tokyo and Arkane Studios’ Deathloop, while getting some updates on Fallout 76, The Elder Scrolls Blades, and much more.
If you missed out on the announcements from the livestream itself, no worries: we’ve got you. Below, check out a recap of all the major news and announcements that came out of Bethesda’s E3 2019 Showcase:
Fallout 76 Gets a Free Trial This Week
While it had a bit of a rough launch (to say the least), Fallout 76 is working to build upon the foundation it established since it released to deliver on the promise that its online experience offered. For those that have yet to see what post-apocalyptic West Virginia looks like nowadays, you can try it out for yourself with a free trial of the game that will run from June 10 (today) through June 17 on PS4, Xbox One, or PC.
Fallout 76 Wastelanders Update is Adding Battle Royale and Other New Content This Fall
Aside from the free trial announcement, Bethesda also detailed that Fallout 76 players are in for much more later this year with the newly-announced Wastelanders update. The new content, which is scheduled to arrive this fall, includes the addition of NPC characters and new storylines, and a new Battle Royale mode for 52 players called “Nuclear Winter.”
Shinji Mikami’s New Title Revealed as GhostWire: Tokyo
Known more recently for The Evil Within series, horror master Shinji Mikami had been teasing a new project that seemingly would be revealed at E3 2019, and he surely didn’t disappoint. During the Bethesda conference, we got our first look at the newly-announced GhostWire: Tokyo, which as shown in the announcement trailer will be a supernatural action-adventure game set in Tokyo, Japan.
The Elder Scrolls: Blades Gets New Content on Mobile and a Nintendo Switch Version
Following its debut earlier this year, The Elder Scrolls: Blades seems to only be the beginning for players of the mobile RPG, as new content was revealed to be coming to the game, including a new quest to take down a dragon. Additionally, the game will arrive for Nintendo Switch owners as a free-to-play experience this fall and will feature cross-save and cross-play functionality with the mobile versions of the game.
The Elder Scrolls Online’s Season of the Dragon Concludes with Dragonhold
After the recent debut of its latest expansion, The Elder Scrolls Online still has much more for players in store in the coming weeks. At the Bethesda conference, we got a glimpse at the final chapter of the MMO’s “Season of the Dragon” event and a taste of what’s in store for the online game over the coming months.
RAGE 2 is Getting a New Expansion Called Rise of the Ghosts
RAGE 2 gave players a frenetic mix of DOOM‘s fast-paced shooting and a massive open-world to explore when it released last month, and it appears that the post-apocalyptic fun won’t stop with the base game. Bethesda announced that a new expansion called RAGE 2: Rise of the Ghosts is currently in the works and will offer players a ton of new content to enhance their wasteland-dwelling experience when it arrives sometime in the near future.
Wolfenstein: Youngblood Gets An Action-Packed New Trailer
It wouldn’t be E3 without some Wolfenstein-flavored Nazi-killing action, and Bethesda delivered that with a brand new trailer for the upcoming Wolfenstein: Youngblood. We got to see plenty more of BJ’s daughters taking down the Nazi regime in Paris, and luckily we don’t have too much longer to wait before the game’s arrival in July.
DOOM Eternal is Releasing in November, New Gameplay Trailer Unveiled
As the ass-kicking follow-up to 2016’s incredible reimagining, DOOM Eternal really seems to be cranking up the demon-killing to 11, and we won’t have too much longer to do it ourselves. The game was officially confirmed to be releasing on November 22, 2019, and at Bethesda’s E3 conference we got to experience more with a brand new story-focused trailer that also showed plenty of gameplay.
Arkane Studios Reveals Deathloop As Its Next Project
Coming from the makers of Dishonored and Prey, the Bethesda conference unveiled the next project to arrive from Arkane Studios, and it’s called Deathloop. While we surely can expect the blend of immersive storytelling and layered gameplay that we’ve come to expect from the studio, Deathloop also seems to be bringing an interesting grindhouse film-themed style to the mix, whenever it ends up debuting.
Bethesda Reveals Orion, a New Software to Optimize Games for Streaming
One of the most interesting announcements from Bethesda’s conference wasn’t necessarily a game reveal, but the announcement of Orion. The new software was revealed as a way for developers to optimize their games for streaming to maximize visual output while minimizing input latency. Though it seems more suited to developers than consumers, players can test out the difference that Orion makes for themselves with a demo of the software while running 2016’s DOOM.
