During Star Wars Celebration Chicago 2019, we finally got another look at the first episode of ILMxLab and Oculus’ upcoming Star Wars VR game Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series and learned more about the game’s story, voice actors, and the platforms it will be available on.
While Vader Immortal was heralded as an Oculus Quest launch game when it was first revealed, its developers have confirmed that the game will also be available on the Oculus Rift and Rift S. As for the story, the game mainly takes place on Mustafar before A New Hope, drawing from both unused concepts from previous Star Wars films as well as touching on what was briefly seen in Rouge One: A Star Wars Story and the Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire VR experience.
The main character of Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series Episode I is the captain of a smuggling ship named Windfall that is finally caught by Imperial Forces and brought to Mustafar to meet Darth Vader. Over the course of the story, players will learn more about Darth Vader, his purpose for capturing the player, and the tribes of Mustafar.
Players will also be able to interact with other characters over the course of Vader Immortal, including Darth Vader himself and a robot companion named Zoe. Darth Vader will be voiced Scott Lawrence while Zoe will, surprisingly, be voiced by comedian and actress Maya Rudolph, who the developers say was very enjoyable to work with.
