Over the past few weeks, there has been a controversy surrounding Judgment, Sega’s upcoming action-adventure game from the Yakuza team. After one of the game’s voice actors, Pierre Taki, was arrested in Tokyo for the use of cocaine, shipments of Judgment in Japan were halted along with the game’s accessibility through digital marketplaces like the PlayStation Store. Because of this, the potential June release date for the game for those in Western markets now also seemed to be in question.
Fortunately, Judgment’s Western release date will not be changing. In a new message from Sega today, the publisher confirmed that Judgment is still set to release on June 25, 2019 for those in the west. However, this release will not come without some changes.
Sega said that the character model and voice of Kyohei Hamura, the character that Pierre Taki played in the game, will be adjusted be for the Western launch. Additionally, all trailers and screenshots that contained Hamura have now bee deleted from Sega’s official channels. New versions of these images and videos will be made available down the road.
While this whole saga has been interesting to see unfold for us here in the west, it goes to show just how seriously Japan takes drug use in its culture. If you’re planning on picking up Judgment this summer, pre-ordering the digital addition can net you the PS4-exclusive four days early on June 21.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the character model and Japanese voice for the character of Kyohei Hamura will be adjusted for the Western release of Judgment, launching on June 25, 2019.
