On Instagram today, Charles Martinet, the voice of Mario, announced he holds the world record for most video game voice-over performances for a single character. Upon the release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate this past weekend, Martinet said he is now at 100 voice performances for the beloved plumber. Charles showed off his photo placed on Guinness’ shelves among other video game record memorabilia.
From Super Mario Bros. to Super Smash Bros. and everything in between, I couldn’t think of a more deserving voice actor to get some recognition. Not to mention Martinet having a great career with other video game performances, including Paarthurnax from Skyrim. With more Mario games surely on the horizon, it looks like it won’t be hard for Martinet to keep his record. Here’s to 100 more Mario performances, Charles.
