The Intellivision Amico was finally unveiled by Tommy Tallarico at Portland Retro Gaming Expo over the weekend. That being said, the event’s livestream was of poor quality and didn’t show the reveal trailer to those watching. Fortunately, Intellivision Entertainment released the official reveal trailer, images, and more detailed information about the system today.
The trailer highlights several parts of the console hardware, its games, and its online functionality. Meanwhile, the first official images give us a closer look at the work-in-progress console and controller designs. You can see those alongside the new trailer at the end of this article.
Several Intellivision Amico facts highlighted during the Portland Retro Gaming Expo presentation were reinforced today. This includes its intended price range of $149 to $179, the fact that it will feature 2D-only remastered Intellivision, Atari, and iMagic games as well as some new titles, and that there will be a downloadable app that one can use in place of a controller. You can also visit the game’s website for a more in depth look hardware specifics and what games to expect remakes off.
One of the most interesting aspects of the game’s future library is that no game can be rated over E10+, and ESRB president Patricia Vance seems to think this is a good idea as it makes the system more enticing for families:
“The average age of a gamer today is 34 years old, and the market reflects that with a broad array of games for people of all ages. Of course, some parents may find that many of those games are not age-appropriate for their children. Intellivision’s policy to only offer games rated E for Everyone and E10+ for Everyone 10 and up on its new system makes finding the right games easier for busy families, especially those with young gamers.”
We also learned that Intellivision has joined the ESA (Entertainment Software Association), and is the fourth console manufacturer to do so after Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. You can check out the first images of the console as well as the reveal trailer below. The Intellivision Amico will release on October 10, 2020.
