Nintendo Switch Online Launching Tonight After eShop Maintenance

The long-overdue Nintendo Switch Online service will finally launch tonight, allowing players to upload their game saves to the cloud, play select NES titles, and play games online—with some caveats. Though Nintendo announced the date of Tuesday, September 18, the service won’t be live until quite late tonight after three hours of Nintendo eShop maintenance.

According to their support website, the maintenance will occur from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm PST, or 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm EST. After that, membership plans, both Individual and Family, can be purchased directly from the eShop or Nintendo’s own website. Like with eShop games on the Switch, MyNintendo Gold Coins can be used to help pay for a subscription.

Here’s a full rundown on the main features that Nintendo Switch Online has, although the fact that cloud saves will not be compatible with all games is hidden quite well. As a reminder, pricing will be $3.99 a month, $7.99 for three months, $19.99 for 12 months, or $34.99 a year for a Family Membership plan with 1-7 other people.

Those who don’t want to pay up yet can enjoy the service for a 7-day free trial—get in all of that Splatoon 2 play while you still can.
