While Gran Turismo Sport proved quite polarizing among the racing community and gamers in general due to its eSports focus, it appears that the game has still been quite successful commercially.
Today Producer Kazunori Yamauchi announced on Twitter that the game passed five million players.

While this isn’t close to the sales of past titles like Gran Turismo 5, which sold over ten million copies on PS3, it’s certainly quite an achievement for a game that brought so many changes to its basic design.
Part of the reason is probably that Sony Interactive Entertainment and Polyphony Digital believed in the title enough to keep pushing relevant updates on a monthly pace since release, adding new cars, tracks, and features to provide fans with a better content suite.
That being said, Yamauchi-san himself believes that there are still things to improve to achieve a “much, much better Gran Turismo.”
Gran Turismo Sport is currently available exclusively for PS4. If you’re interested, you can grab a copy on Amazon.
