Hollow Knight was a surprise release that launched a few weeks back on the Nintendo Switch without notice. In light of some new sales numbers, clearly, that sudden release didn’t hurt the game at all.
Speaking to IGN, developer Team Cherry revealed that the Switch version of Hollow Knight has been doing incredibly well out of the gate and has already eclipsed a quarter of a million units sold. While that might not seem like a lot compared to that of a triple-A release, for a title that is being both developed and self-published by a relatively small team, those are some impressive numbers only a little over two weeks after launch.
Team Cherry went on to say that currently, they are in the process of working on a new patch for Hollow Knight on Switch to fix some of the bugs included in the launch version of the game. While there’s no ETA on just when this new patch will be pushed out, you’d have to imagine it’ll be within the coming days or weeks.
With this kind of success on Switch alone, it begs the question of whether or not Hollow Knight will eventually make its way to the other major consoles — PS4 and Xbox One. While Team Cherry has said nothing that would indicate their release on these platforms just yet, if the Switch version continues to sell at this rate then it might be a move that would make sense for them to make.
