As announced back in February, Nihon Falcom unveiled today video footage for Ys IX: Monstrum Nox on PS4. The reveal was made during a stage event with Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo, at the Dengeki Game Festival 2019.
The gameplay showed two of the Monstrum characters and how each one of them has different “Movement Actions” they can use to travel around, and how one of them can even fly. A red-haired character which certainly looks like to be Adol, though wasn’t actually named such by Kondo, was shown too. Certain Movement Actions can also be used to attack or disable traps in dungeons.
This is the first time we see Adol, or at least someone who looks a lot like him, in Ys IX: Monstrum Nox. Falcom mentioned before how the game takes place after Ys Seven and features the oldest incarnation of Adol yet, and how he looks pretty different than usual. We can confirm this with our own eyes now. His hair is longer than usual too and he has a short ponytail like hairstyle. Kondo also revealed that Adol is 24 years old in Ys IX: Monstrum Nox.
Ys IX: Monstrum Nox is scheduled to release in Fall 2019 in Japan for PS4. Falcom usually releases their games on the last days of September especially, so if Ys IX doesn’t end up delayed, there’s a very high chance it’ll launch then as well. The game wasn’t announced in the west yet but will definitely come over just like past Ys games.
Another article with everything Kondo said during the stage event and a translation for all the new info on Ys IX: Monstrum Nox will be coming shortly. For now, you can enjoy the gameplay below I recorded showing what seems to be Adol. Keep in mind the quality is far from optimal, and this article will be updated once Falcom and Dengeki re-uploads all the gameplay officially once the event ends. I’ve included the event’s stream below as well, but the timestamp for the gameplay keeps changing as the Dengeki Game Festival 2019 stream itself isn’t over yet and is over two hours long.
