Level-5 announced the next Yo-kai Watch game, Yo-kai Academy Y, will be launching August 13 in Japan on Nintendo Switch. The game was already announced on PS4 as well, but the PS4 version’s date wasn’t revealed yet, and we only know it’ll launch at around the same timeframe.
As a reminder, the game will launch digitally only. The game is priced at 4800 Yen, with a 6300 Yen digital deluxe edition, containing day-one items DLCs. It’s cheaper to buy this than to buy each DLC separately for 500 Yen. Free updates will be coming pretty much monthly. In particular, a multiplayer mode will be added soon after launch.
New gameplay via new TV commercials was also published by Level-5.
Yo-kai Academy Y New Gameplay
The first video features protagonist Junpei helping around the academy city, showcasing the best way to make bonds with other students is to solve their problems. The second one teases some cool and interesting story content with the Student Council President voiced by Fukujun having a nice transformed self.
Last but not least, the third video explain how Yo-Kai Academy Y characters will be joining mobile game Inazuma Eleven SD for a time-limited event celebrating the game’s launch. On a related note, Inazuma Eleven: Heroes Great Road is scheduled to launch in “probably 2021”. Level-5 President Akihiro Hino said so on a news post published April 1st, 2020.
Yo-kai Academy Y: Waiwai Gakuen Seikatsu, the full name of Yo-kai Academy Y, is the second game of the franchise to launch on both Switch and PS4. It follows Yo-kai Watch 4 ++.
Yo-kai Watch 4 was announced in the west with no release date. and it’s probably the ++ version we’ll get from the start.
