Earlier today Microsoft unveiled its financial results for the second quarter of 2021. As expected, the PC and cloud side of its business contributed to plenty of its earnings in the quarter, but the Xbox side saw some growth as well. In total, the company reported a revue of $43.1 billion with a net income of $15.5 billion. That net income amount was up by 33 percent while the revenue was up by 17 percent.
On the Xbox side of things, hardware revenue has grown by 86 percent. The release of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S contributed to that growth since the next-gen consoles released in this quarter. It should be noted that the consoles did release toward the end of the quarter.
Compared to the same quarter last year, content and services revenue for Xbox increased by 40 percent with Microsoft’s gaming revue up 51 percent. As stated by Tom Warren from The Verge, 2020 was a very popular year for video games. Gamers are turning to new services and technologies such as Game Pass and xCloud during the pandemic.
Even though Xbox had a slight hiccup just a few days ago, the brand continues to make the right moves. Xbox Game Pass continues to be the best deal in gaming. Month after month, the service is bringing quality titles over. Let’s just hope that this train doesn’t come to a halt anytime soon.
If you didn’t catch it, this is quite a month for Xbox Game Pass. In just a couple of days, The Medium will be hitting the service. Cyber Shadow was just released today for Game Pass. Control came to Game Pass for PC and more Yakuza games came to console and PC as well. On top of that, Games with Gold for February 2021 has quite the catalog of games to choose from.
