Swery65 is a notable name in the video game industry from his just-legally-distinct-enough-from-Twin-Peaks cult classic Deadly Premonition to the lesser known and sadly incomplete D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die. Now, his quirky new animal-based adventure The Good Life has successfully been funded on Kickstarter and has released a new story trailer, which you can watch below.
If you haven’t heard of The Good Life or don’t know what it’s about, don’t worry: you’re not alone. I’ve been following it pretty closely, and I still have no idea what the heck is going on. The story trailer actually does give us some delightful insight into main character Naomi, who finds that country life and being chased by sheep does not agree with her at all. Still, she has a debt to pay (presumably to Tom Nook), and so, she must stay in the countryside to chronicle the goings-on of a small, rural town. Of course, it’s kind of hard to pay off all your debt when you drink your money away at the bar, but hey, everyone has their own process.
The game is described as:
The main character of this game is a female New Yorker named Naomi. In order to pay off her debt, she took a job from a newspaper company in NY and moved to the ‘happiest town in the world.’ This game chronicles all the bizarre things she experiences during her time in the town.
Also, people turn into cats and dogs at night. Yeah. Cats and dogs. Why? I have no idea. You can play as a dog or a cat at night, apparently. Sort of a Pokemon Red vs. Pokemon Blue dilemma going on there. Oh yeah, and there’s a murder too, so Naomi should probably get on figuring out what that’s about rather than leave it up to the local police, obviously.
If that all sounds confusing or ludicrous, that’s because it is, and I love every second of it. The Good Life will be coming to PC and PS4. There’s no word on a release date so far, but look forward to “enjoy the limitless freedom that only cats and dogs get to experience.”
