While it’s known for sharing some major announcements like AAA game reveals or console news, The Game Awards each year also happens to shine a light on new and exciting indie game projects, with a particularly exciting new project having been revealed from former developers at Arkane, called Weird West.
During The Game Awards 2019, a new trailer debuted for Weird West, which is the debut project from developer WolfEye Studios. The studio itself was formed earlier this year and is composed primarily of former developers from Arkane Studios and headed by Raphael Colantonio and Julien Roby, who previously worked on games at the studio such as the Dishonored series and 2017’s Prey.
According to the reveal trailer, Weird West is a top-down action-RPG set in a Wild West setting that also merges various supernatural and spiritual elements. The trailer also revealed that the game will be published by Devolver Digital and is coming to PC, though no other platforms were confirmed for the game at this time.
Though there isn’t a ton of information on the game to go off of just yet, the trailer still gives a good indication that we’re in for a wild ride from the developers of immersive sims like Dishonored and Prey, which gives me a lot of hope that it blends intriguing gameplay with a compelling story that gives the player some choice in how it plays out.
Weird West is currently in development for PC, with no announced release window or date just yet. For a closer look at the game, you can check out the reveal trailer below from The Game Awards:
