With the big mid-season update arriving in both Cold War and Warzone this Thursday, a new Payload game mode will arrive for Battle Royale fans.
Unlike Cold War’s Multiplayer, which receives new modes pretty much weekly in playlist updates, Warzone players often feel left out. It’s rare for the Battle Royale title to receive a never before seen mode. So, fans will be eager to jump into the new mode when it releases with the Season 4 Reloaded Update on July 15th.

Warzone – New Payload Mode Explained
Payload is set to become Warzone’s first-ever objective-based game mode. Players will be able to jump into Payload when Season 4 Reloaded kicks off on July 15th.
According to the Call of Duty team, Payload is inspired by WWII’s War Mode, which fans may remember from 2017. Payload will consist of 40 players total, split into 2 teams of 20. Each team will fight against each other to obtain intel from large vehicles.
If you’re able to hold off the enemy team and escort all of the marked vehicles across all of the checkpoints within the allotted time limit, you will win the game.
Unlike the standard Battle Royale modes, players will have unlimited lives and be able to drop in with their own loadout. Much like the existing Warzone mode, Plunder.
If you’re on the defending team, you’ll also be able to pick players off of the vehicles, as well as buy and build obstacles to stop the enemies in their tracks.
Essentially, one team must escort the vehicles through the checkpoints and the defending team must prevent them from completing their objective. It all kicks off on July 15th at 5AM BST with Season 4 Reloaded.
Warzone & Cold War Season 4 Reloaded
The big mid-season update for Cold War and Warzone is almost here, and it’s certainly going to shake things up a bit.
The anticipated Cold War Zombies Map, Mauer Der Toten, will finally release alongside a new wonder weapon and the return of the Mule Kick Perk.
As for Cold War Multiplayer, fans can expect a remake of the 6v6 map Rush from Black Ops 2, as well as new modes, playlists and even a brand new SMG.
If your focus is solely on Warzone, not only will players receive the new Payload game mode, they’ll also be treated to a new Sentry Gun Killstreak and a new Blueprint Blitz event.
More details on Season 4 Reloaded can be found at the official Call of Duty website.
