Today’s issue of Weekly Famitsu included an article on Sega’s upcoming strategy JRPG Valkyria Chronicles 4.
This time around, we hear more about the new valkyria Clymaria Lewin. She is nicknamed “the Witch of the Swowstorm” and she attacks by shooting bursts of energy with a curved trajectory. They’re very powerful and can damage even tanks. Armored vehicles with their thin armor can be knocked out of commission even just with interception fire, so extreme caution is required when facing her.
We also see the Vulkan, which is the tank commanded by Klaus Voltz. It’s the latest state-of-the-art heavy tank produced by the Empire, and it combines high maneuverability and superior firepower capable of intercepting moving enemies. It can also carry Clymaria herself, channeling her power through its cannon to project a devastating energy beam that can cover a large part of the battlefield.
While advancing the main story, we can break the seal of censorship on side-stories dedicated to the many members of squad E, including the first meeting between Claude and Raz, and many more.
You can check out the screenshots below. Looks like the trick of hiding behind tanks that we used in the first game against Selvaria won’t work with Clymaria.
Do keep in mind that these are from magazine scans, so the quality is not perfect.
If you want to try the game for yourself, a demo is currently available on the Japanese PlayStation Store. If you’d rather just watch, you can enjoy about an hour of gameplay that yours truly recorded from the demo. You can also check out the most recent commercial, which also focuses a lot of Clymaria.
Valkyria Chronicles 4 will launch in North America and Europe for PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One in 2018. It will release in Japan for PS4 on March 21st, 2018 and for Nintendo Switch later in the summer.
